Ethnologist Carola Lentz becomes President of the Goethe-Institute . It is to replace the former President Klaus-Dieter Lehmann in November 2020. Lentz had been elected on Friday by the Presidium of the Goethe Institute in a special meeting, the Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

Lentz is Professor of Ethnology at the University of Mainz and Vice President of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. She will be the second woman at the head of the institute, according to lawyer Jutta Limbach.

The Goethe-Institut has the task of promoting the German language and strengthening cultural cooperation abroad. There are currently around 160 institutions in almost 100 countries.
